How it works
1. We measure your file, properly
When you upload a model we do not guess from the file size. We read the geometry and compute the enclosed volume using the divergence theorem, summing the signed volume of every triangle against the origin. That gives the true solid volume regardless of where the model sits in space or which way its normals point.
We also measure surface area, the bounding box, the number of separate bodies, and whether the mesh is watertight. If it has holes we tell you, because the volume of an open mesh is an estimate.
STEP and IGES files are not meshes at all — they describe exact mathematical surfaces. Those are tessellated with OpenCascade at a fine tolerance before being measured the same way.
2. We work out what it costs us
Every part is priced from three real costs:
- Material. On FDM, a sparse part is a solid shell around a lattice, so we estimate the shell from the surface area and apply your infill percentage only to the core. Support material and process waste are added on top. Multiply by density and the current cost per kilogram.
- Machine time. How long the printer is occupied: the volume of material divided by the deposition rate for that process and quality tier, plus a fixed overhead for every layer.
- Finishing. A flat labour charge plus a rate per square centimetre of surface treated.
3. Then the commercial bit
Our margin is applied, the price is rounded up, and a per-process minimum stops very small parts being quoted below what they cost to handle. A setup fee is charged once per line item, not per piece, which is why ten of something costs far less than ten times one. Volume discounts start at five pieces.
GST is added at checkout, along with shipping for your state. Every quote shows this itemised — click “Show price breakdown” on any part.
4. Production and delivery
Once payment clears, your parts are queued. You can follow each stage from your orders page, and we email you at every change. Standard turnaround is five business days from payment; Express and Rush are available at checkout.
Your files
Uploads are stored privately, outside the public web root, under random keys that cannot be guessed. They are served only to you and to our production team. We do not publish, share or resell customer geometry.
